Japanese visas are generally rejected when the applicant does not meet the following criteria for visa issuance:

  • Some or all of the submitted documents are fake, incomplete, or unacceptable.

  • The applicant's activities, status, or stay don't meet the requirements of Japan's immigration rules.

  • The applicant is listed under one or more conditions in Article 5, Paragraph 1 of the Immigration Control Act.

What information do I need to check my Japan visa application status?

You need the application reference number and date of birth to track your Japan visa application.

My Japan visa status is still showing "in process." What can I do?

If your Japan visa status is still showing "in process," there might be two possible scenarios:

  • Still within the processing window: The Japan visa application generally takes 5 working days to process. So, it's normal for the status to remain "in process" during this period.

  • Processing delays: If the status remains unchanged even after the processing time is over, check your email's spam or junk folder to see if you have missed any updates. If there are no updates, contact the visa support team of the application platform through which you applied.

Can I check my Japan visa status with passport number?

No, Japan visa status check by passport number is currently not possible. You will need your application reference number and date of birth to get the status.

Can I check my Japan visa status offline?

No, the Japanese Embassy does not provide status updates through offline enquiries.

You can only track the visa status online through the Atlys tracker or the visa application centre’s website.
